The migrants are called Okies because most of them are from Oklahoma. They left their poverty-stricken homes to strike fortune in California, but the Californians despise them and then the “Okies” thought it was an insult. Because they think the new workers are taking their jobs. It is basically the same situation that we are having today with illegal immigrants from Mexico and other South Central American countries. People in the U.S. refer to them solely as "Mexicans" and they are disliked by the low wage out of work population because the new workers work for cheap salaries. The Okies Were migrating every where they had to send money to there families because of there needs. Migrant people didn’t care about the climate because they needed their salary. What they were doing was nessecery that’s what I think about what the okies.
