Own words: There is a big problem with high school students
dropping out. With a minimum of 250 words explain: Why do you think some
students choose to drop out? What are their consequences of dropping out?
What’s a good solution to prevent high school drop out?
The statistics show that every year 1.2 million
high school students drop out. Every dropout has their own reasons on why they
chose the impetuous decision. In my opinion the most dropouts are because of
teen pregnancy. Teenagers get pregnant at a young age and don’t know what to do
and how to manage with school and their baby. They get over stressed and
believe that the easy way out is dropping out of school. I also believe that
some students dropout because of them living in poverty and in need of a job to
help out themselves and maybe their family. What dropouts don’t understand is
that everything comes back with a consequence. For instance, the article The
Effects of Not Graduating High School explains that, “Statistics provided
by the center state that people who graduated high school earn an average
of $143 more per week than those who
chose not to graduate. In addition, college graduates make on average $336 more
weekly than those who only graduated high school.” (Crossely, Leonor, 11/20/12).
The result of dropouts getting less money than those who did graduate high
school makes the dropouts seek for public or government help. This also leads
to costing everyone else more money (Crossely, Leonor, 11/20/12). Dropouts can get help from their own school.
There might be programs for students who need help in money. There might also
be programs for teenage girls who need help with their baby like taking care of
them. There really isn’t any way to prevent high school dropouts because if
they want to dropout so badly they will accomplish that no matter how much help
they get. It’s their choice and their life that their messing up and later on
in life they will regret it.
